I run toward my Holy Father;
I stop short not knowing why.
I bow down before going farther,
overwhelmed, I start to cry;
then Jesus pulled me up with His nail-scarred hands
I fear to lift my face.
Suddenly I felt His arms around me;
I fell into His warm embrace.

And He said, "I never left your side through the years.
I've always been closer than you know.
The tickle behind your giggle,
the drier of all your tears.
The home-made quilt that warmed you from head to toe."

With my ear laid upon His chest
a newness overcomes me so pure and sweet.
Never have I ever felt so loved and blessed
than when I heard His sweet heart beat.
With every echo of the beat of His heart
my life passed before my eyes.
From the comfort of my mother's first touch
to the sound of my own children's first cries.

And He said, "I never left your side through the years.
I've always been closer than you know;
The tickle behind your giggle;
the drier of all your tears;
the home-made quilt that warmed you from head to toe."

"Through many trials you overcame.
Forever, now, you'll be with Me;
a brand new branch on life's brand new tree.
So my child, I say to you, well done.
Well done. Well done."
