Don’t Do It

Don’t do it, please don’t do it
I shouted as I awoke from the dream
Sweat was pouring from my forehead
Tears flowing on my pillow in a stream

I had seen two men talking
Standing high upon a concrete dam
Rivers formed a lake on one side
On the other, just desert sand

Don’t do it, please don’t do it
Don’t build a larger dam
Let the water flow
Turn the desert into a garden

We can build a grand attraction, they said
Crowds will come from miles around
A larger lake, a larger dam
Our career accomplishment to be crowned

Don’t do it, please don’t do it
Please let the water flow
The ground is parched and famished
Without water there is no hope

Just a few days later
The pastor stood with blueprints in his hand
Before an overflow crowd
And told the congregation of his plan

In private later that day
I shared the message of the dream
The Pastor tore the blueprints to pieces
Cried and fell to his knees

Don’t do it, please don’t do it
Just train the church that is here
Send out missionaries
And spread the gospel far and near

Don’t do it, please don’t do it
Just let the water flow
Without the life giving water
This world has no hope

Ohhhh
