Cristina’s Tears

The leaves turn red and gold
A northern wind brings the cold
On the crowded parkway she stands
A ragged child with outstretched hand.

It’s now been two years
Since her mother passed away
Pretty things and little girl dreams
All fell apart that day.

The tears of Cristina
No one knows, or sees
But glimpsed in times of make-believe
She says, “Someday a family
Will take me to their home
I’ll be their daughter
And no longer alone.”

A blanket of snow now covers the ground
The aroma of supper hovers over the town
Families are inside, happy and warm
Secure and safe from the storm.

Outside, a shivering little girl
Begging under the dim streetlight
Tells herself that someday
Everything will be alright

The tears of Cristina
No one knows, or sees
But glimpsed in times of make-believe
She says, “Someday a family
Will take me to their home
I’ll be their daughter
And no longer alone.”

The tears of Cristina
In God’s bottle they are stored
Each one breaks His heart
But by the world ignored

The tears of Cristina
In God’s bottle they are stored.
Breaking His heart.
Breaking His heart.
