Unconquerable

Ruby, was just a country girl
John was raised as a city guy
Starry-eyed and young,
With lives just begun
Met behind the barn in early July.

John took her hand and looked in her eyes
While Ruby blushed, but with no surprise
They pledged to each other and to God above
To follow Jesus all of their lives

When the flowers bloomed
and the grass was green
The valley echoed as
The wedding bells did ring

They settled down in a peaceful town
The bills barely paid, together they worked and prayed.
Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and years
So quickly it seemed

Storm clouds grew thick
Thunder crashed, lightening flashed across the sky
Howling winds shook the house
Demons yelled, “you’ll never survive”

Then the stork visited with a bundle of joy
And came again a short while later
They faced their daily problems with faith
As they looked to God who was greater

But all around they could see lives that were ruined
The world’s way of rewarding those who follow
Houses built on the sand, unable to stand
Left with sorrow, no tomorrow

Built on the rock of obedience to Christ
No storm could harm or capsize
Holding each other tight,
with prayers day and night

The demons of hell devised a plan
“We’ll shake um loose,
We’ll turn their rock into sand.”

Storm clouds grew thick
Thunder crashed, lightening flashed across the sky
Howling winds shook the house
Demons yelled, “you’ll never survive”

As the storm raged on
The family stayed strong
Kneeling in their humble home
Angels surrounded that house
God’s anger was now aroused

“That’s not fair”, cried the demons.
“You sent help from above
They’re covered by grace and Jesus’ blood.”

And the demons were scattered
In a panic, running and screaming scared
Licking their wounds, whining about being beat by obedience and prayer.

Another peaceful night
John, Ruby and the kids sleep quietly now
House built on the Rock
In the Hands of God, unconquerable.
