Dandelion

Big brown eyes and wild curly hair so untamed.

He sings out his story, un-noticed, un-named.

He shows no frustration, he acknowledges no pain.

He's a flower in a world full of thorns.

Blue jeans full of holes, no designer cuts there.

He is ragged and run down and nobody cares.

His song rises to Heaven but the city folks just stare.

He's a flower in a world full of thorns.

(Chorus:)

Dandelion, Dandelion, Where's your mama gone to?

Dandelion, Dandelion, don't your daddy love you?

Dandelion, Dandelion, sunny smile on your face,

in a world full of cold hearts. You must feel out of place.

On the streets of that city he is looking for love,

but the people don't want him so his eyes look above.

And the cold hearted snakes recognize he's a dove.

He's a flower in a world full of thorns.

Little Danny, he smiles at the strangers he meets.

And some throw him quarters, some spit at his feet.

Just a motherless orphan with brown dirty cheeks.

He's a flower in a world full of thorns.

(Chorus:)

In yesterday's papers I read and I cried.

The sorrow it tore me and could not be denied.

He lived on the streets and that is where he died.

He was a flower in a world full of thorns.

Every day I passed his corner, every day I heard his song.

I slipped him a quarter as I scurried along.

Feeling good about my deed now little Dandelion's gone.

I'm just a thorn in a world full of thorns.

God forgive me! In a world full of thorns.
